TA Class, Final Destination
In my duties as a TA this semester, I have to read through what the students (all freshmen) post on their class's online discussion board.
I've already posted that one entry by that kid who needs to put away his thesaurus and watch more MTV, and in a post today he either misused a word or used it in a way that I didn't know it could be used.
Some of the grammar is horrible, such as one person typing "theyres" instead of "there's," which doesn't really make a whole lot of sense.
And these kids totally think that watching a movie that isn't Oscar quality means that they are watching something that is a "guilt pleasure." In some instances, these kids are right, and I use that expression to describe my love for things Jackass-related, such as Wildboyz, because watching two half-naked guys play with animals and indigenous (or "ingenius" as they say) peoples is all kinds of fun. But on called Can't Hardly Wait a guilt pleasure, and while that isn't the greatest movie of all time, it's one of my favorites (and not just because Ilust after adore Ethan Embry).
What do you consider a guilty pleasure when it comes to TV or films? By their definitions, *all* of my favorite movies are guilty pleasures.
Similarly, while my taste in movies is attrocious (come on, what *normal* girl lists From Dusk Till Dawn as her favorite film?), I have seen nothing on any of these "Worst of 2005" lists. Didn't even want to. The only thing I was even considering seeing was Dukes of Hazzard because it stars two of my favorite people, Johnny Knoxville and Seann William Scott. Granted, I also rarely ever see anything that goes up for an Oscar, either. I usually only see one, if any, just because the movies that win aren't ones that I'm interested in seeing.
I'm gonna ask the professor tonight if I'm allowed to join in the discussion so that I can chat with these kids.
Also, the professor expects me to sit and watch the movies with the class. He's there, too, so I can't even sit in the projection booth and do my own thing. I have to sit out there and be interestesd. Why is he there? Why do I need to be there if he is? Why do I have to watch these movies? It's not my class. Grr.
Speaking of movies, what does anyone think about Final Destination 3? I love the first one, and that was before I knew who Seann William Scott was. I didn't see that one in the theater, largely because my mom said not to because it came out before I flew to England and she didn't want to freak me out with the plain crash scene. But I think that Final Destination is great, and while I don't own it for some reason, whenever it's on TV I try to catch it (heck, even my dad likes it and he doesn't like anything).
I saw Final Destination 2 when
monkeyputz rented it and asked if I wanted to watch it with her. While I thought the opening scene in that was amazing from a film production standpoint, the rest of the film didn't really make any sense to me. I didn't really see what they were doing; though I understood the theory behind it it wasn't executed well. Some of the deaths were cool, others were kind of gruesome.
I hadn't wanted to see Final Destination 3 in theaters because I hadn't seen the others in mainstream theaters (finally saw the first one at the discount theater, after I was safely home), and I hadn't wanted to break the trend. But I keep seeing commercials for it, and it looks good.
Anyone else curious about what they're gonna do with it? It looks as if the plot will be similar to the first film, which is fine by me.
