SV 10.18-Booster
Huh.
Well, it’s another one of those random DC character inserts where this stranger tells Clark how to behave (or how he will behave), the season arc doesn’t move, yet Clark’s character is developed.
I wish there was a way to develop Clark within the season storyline and not introduce a DC character in a goofy way.
Again, I don’t really understand why of all the DC characters they chose Booster. I don’t know his history, so I don’t know how accurately he was portrayed, other than being a loser without inherent powers. I’m a little bummed Skeets was a Bluetooth rather than the floating sphere. I know that there’s the fandom pairing of “Boostle,” or Booster and Blue Beetle, but that’s about all I know about Blue Beetle except I thought his name was Ted Kord. I guess it doesn’t matter, but still.
And seriously, what is with all the people coming from the future to tell Clark how he’s going to be this great hero revered for centuries? Don’t interfere with the past! I don’t think it’s a coincidence that this was written by Geoff Johns, like Legion was. This was practically a rewrite.
I found the episode overall entertaining, as it had a conflict and developed Clark, and I thought the actor playing Booster did a good job, but I found it really out of place. I mean, basically it could have taken place at any point within the season, though technically after the VRA stuff. We didn’t have Tess or Luthors. Isn’t there a story arc where they’re all supposed to be fighting some Darkness or something? I can’t even remember anymore.
And next week we get Zod again? Really? Isn’t there, like, a story to tell?
I did appreciate Clark’s growth here, returning to the idea introduced earlier in the season of him being a geek, wearing glasses, etc. I’m not sure I like him taking advice from Booster, though.
But Clark darting into the phone booth to change… It was a little weird that he bothered to run to a glass phone booth to change, but it was still iconic and fun to see.
I dunno. Not a terrible episode, just poorly placed within the season.
