Plague of Mice (or should that be Mice of Plague...)
So. I've taken to watching the local news at 10, since there isn't much else on, and I'm one of those people that leaves the TV on in case something good magically comes on. Sometimes this works.
Anyway, one of the little bits tonight before they went to commercial was, "Three mice escaped from a laboratory. They are infected with the plague."
Yes. The Plague. As in, bubonic. As in, wiped out a quarter (or a third, whatever) of Europe.
After the commercial break, it was revealed that the mice were lost TWO weeks ago. They aren't expected to be found. And apparently 10-20 people die of the plauge in America every year. News to me.
This is a really crummy news program, btw. The cuts are poor, the people don't seem very nice, and the sports guy is really annoying (stop taking digs at the Yankees!). I don't know why I watch it. And I'm quite certain that the special story last night, about the cost of removing tattoos, was presented in a way to try to keep people from getting a tattoo. I don't understand this. Tattoos aren't necessarily evil. A girl getting a flower tattooed on her shoulder isn't a sign of the Apocalypse. But the story emphasized how expensive and painful tattoos are to remove, and kinda sorta gave examples of why people would want them removed. One girl was just explained that it was cool when she got it, but it's not any more, and it was in a place on her back that you really can't cover up.
Huh. Sounds like she was too stupid to get a tattoo in the first place.
If I were trying to convince people to not get a tattoo, I'd emphasize the pain factor, and how hard it is to take care of at first. I love when people argue that "Oh, you'll have to look at it for the rest of your life." But after a while you don't even see it! How often do you notice your freckles or birthmarks? You probably don't even pay attention to them at all. Same with a tattoo after a while, at least for me. Granted mine is in a place where a) I can't see it unless I look and b) no one else can really see it unless I show it or wear a top of some sort that doesn't reach my pants.
Getting a tattoo isn't something you should do lightly, or drunk, because it is something you have to handle. But a tattoo isn't a harbinger of doom. Just be smart. Heck, if you have words around your ankle or something like my friend does, you'd never see it yourself and I never noticed until she showed me. And some tattoos are pretty damn hot.
This small rant about tattoos has nothing to do with mice. But about how this news program is bad.
