Fun things on a Sunday: grading quizzes.
Have I mentioned I'm a TA? I don't think I did.
Well, I am. At first I was working with a professor who didn't really have much for me to do, and it was nice. But now I'm working with a woman who, like, wants me to do stuff for her. Bummer, I know.
I just finished grading the first quiz for the class. The class of 68 people, btw. 5 question multiple choice questions. Or, for a surprising amount of students, multiple guess.
I guess I'm just not used to people not getting at least 3 out of 5 questions right. But some people got only 2 right. And two only got one right. If I got a 20% on a quiz, I think I'd cry. (Have I mentioned the overachiever part of myself?)
Also, some of the quizzes had some amusing bits to them. For example, a student named Dan signed his name as "Dan the Man." Just *doing* that ensures that you're a geek, dude, not "the man."
Another student, named Adam, drew on the back of his (he wasn't the only one, but his was the only quiz that stood out). He drew a bright sun, a rainbow sitting on clouds, and a unicorn. Which, if drawn by a ten year old girl, wouldn't be weird. Or if it were done by an artist, it wouldn't be weird. But this is just some kid drawing not-terribly-great depictions of quite girly things. Just struck me as odd.
And, another kid has apparently never taken a quiz before. One of the questions was set up as a sentence with two blanks, and you had to fill in the blanks from the choices given. Like, a) dickinson/phonograph, b) smith/radio for example. But this kid filled out his in such a way that it was the equivalent of dickinson/radio, which was not a freaking answer choice! So I gave him partial credit, because he did get half of it right. I'll have to talk to the professor and make sure that that's okay.
I can see it's going to be an interesting semester.

I guess going to a school full of smart people, then attending here, has skewed my perception of students somehow.
